Bovine Trichimoniasis

The New Mexico Livestock Board has implemented regulations to protect producers from this highly infectious, contagious disease. Rules adopted are consistent with other state regulations governing this disease.

Virgin bulls not exposed to breeding are exempt from testing if under 12 months of age.  Virgin Bulls between 12 and 24 months of age accompanied by a signed affidavit certifying no exposure to females are exempt from testing. 

Non-virgin Breeding age Bulls must be tested negative prior to import into New Mexico.  Non-virgin Breeding age Bulls sold within the state of New Mexico must be tested negative.

Testing must be performed by a veterinarian certified in the state of origin to perform Trichomonas testing.  Click here for a current list of certified veterinarians.  The New Mexico Livestock Board, Office of the State Veterinarian certifies New Mexico Veterinarians.  Dr. Timothy Hanosh, Assistant State Veterinarian, oversees the program and training for veterinarians.  Dr. Hanosh may be reached at:
