Training

In April, 2005, New Mexico hosted a Designated Johnes Coordinator training for veterinarians from across the United States.  The training was sponsored by USDA.  Eighteen persons attended to include four University professors from Texas A&M, Oregon State, Pennsylvania State and Colorado State who taught the training and the USDA National Johnes Director, Dr. Carter and Western Regional Director, Dr. Honsted.  Each attendee received eight hours of training and visited facilities within the state to gain an understanding of western dairying and ranching.

Any New Mexico veterinarian who would like to become Johnes certified can contact the New Mexico Livestock Board, Dr. Dave Fly at 505-841-6161 for information.  Certification can be completed on-line or through attendance at a training workshop, to include facility visit at no cost to the veterinarian.
