Governor Bill Richardson has requested that the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) designate the New Mexico Meat & Poultry Inspection program and assume food safety inspection responsibilities in State-inspected meat slaughter and processing establishments within the State.  This request was made in an effort to maintain a healthy and safe food supply for the citizens of New Mexico, and recognizing the fact that FSIS is uniquely equipped to conduct such inspection.  FSIS will begin inspection in these facilities on August 13, 2007.

Information and application materials for FSIS inspection can be obtained by contacting the Denver District Office of FSIS.
