The state of
New Mexico continues to lead the nation in livestock movement
control. In addition, the state of New Mexico, through the New
Mexico Livestock Board, continues to move forward to meet the
challenges of bio-security, infectious disease control and
homeland security concerns. In following with the NMLB’s
pro-active approach they are cooperating with USDA to facilitate
the necessary procedures for continued interstate and
international livestock trade.
The first
stage of a nationwide tracking system is the newly defined
voluntary PREMISES
REGISTRATION. Premises registration is the identification, with
a unique number, of the physical location of livestock
production units. Under the new system, the information
requested in the
registration form will be catalogued with the New Mexico Livestock Board
brand data base. This information will also be securely sent to
USDA as a part of the premises registration process and will be
held in strict confidentiality by USDA.
As a livestock
owner, producer, or service provider in the livestock industry
in New Mexico, you are asked to complete the
NM PREMISES REGISTRATION FORM and return to the
NMLB, as indicated on the form. NMLB Livestock Inspectors and
NMSU Extension agents may assist in collecting and verifying GPS
coordinates for each premises.
